Alex Uriarte, Ph.D

Director of Data Solutions

Dr. Alex Uriartehas 24 years of experience managing teams, analyzing social and economic data, addressing social and environmental safeguards for infrastructure and land use projects, and implementing economic growth projects overseas. Since joining DevTech in 2016, Dr. Uriarte has led DevTech’s support to USAID’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (M/CIO) and its Chief Data Officer (CDO) under three successive awards. In this role he has led large and diverse teams providing services across the data lifecycle: from the management and integration of databases, to data analysis, visualization and reporting, and including support to the development of data related policies and the development a data literacy training program. 

Prior to joining DevTech, Dr. Uriarte worked for almost eight years conducting socioeconomic impact assessments of policies and infrastructure projects in the United States and abroad for a variety of U.S Federal government agencies and for the World Bank. Previously he worked for over eight years in Brazil and Paraguay supporting agricultural export projects and conducting economic and environmental policy studies, including three years as USAID’s Economic Growth officer in Paraguay. Dr. Uriarte holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, a Masters in Business Economics from the Getulio Vargas Foundation (São Paulo, Brazil), and an M.S. in Economics and a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and has experience working in Brazil, Paraguay and Mozambique.
